The sixth Friday Event for the spring semester of 2022 was held by SIPA on Friday, June 10th. Mr. Ismail Almathil was invited to deliver a talk on the topic of “The rise of the Houthis to power, and the chaotic divisions in Yemen”.

Mr. Ismail started with an introduction about Yemen geography, history and location of Yemen and its sea line and strait important for global trade between continents, then he moved on to introducing the most important personalities who were present in Yemen and had an impact on the course of events, moving on to explaining the beginning of the formation of the Houthi group and the events that occurred in Yemen and how the Houthis exploited those events to their advantage, All the way to the beginning of the Saudi intervention and the Gulf states, to the current Yemeni situation in the political division of Yemen between several political parties.

The topic of the event was interesting and brief but contains a lot of important and interesting information, which created a great resonance between the students and they praised the efforts of Mr. Ismail for the detailed and interesting topic which lasted for one hour, and some questions were asked form Dr. Alex and comments from students.
